2012 Union Scholarships

2012 - Morton Bahr Online Learning Scholarship

Available to individuals pursuing a degree at Empire State College to assists union members and other workers by furthering their educational goals through distance learning.

Who Can Apply? Union workers, family members and/or domestic partners interested in registering for undergraduate degree studies with Empire State College.

What Does the Scholarship Cover? Scholarship awards will fully cover tuition, fees and special services. Students in the program will be eligible for scholarship funding for one or two courses a term (a maximum of eight credits). They will continue to receive scholarship funding as long as they maintain satisfactory academic progress. See application for full details.

CWA - Joe Beirne Scholarship Program

Fifteen partial college scholarships of $3,000 each are being offered. Winners, selected in a lottery drawing, also will receive second-year scholarships of the same amount contingent upon satisfactory academic accomplishment.  Part-time students, less than 12 credits, will receive half of the scholarship monies.

Eligibility - CWA members, their spouses, children and grandchildren (including dependents of laid-off, retired or deceased CWA members) may apply. Applicants must be high school graduates or at least high school students who will graduate during the year in which they apply. Undergraduate and graduate students returning to schooling may also apply. Prior winners may not reapply.

No specific studies are required. Scholarship winners may pursue whatever courses they wish. See the application and essay requirements via link below.

A CWA Local 1168 Scholarship Winner is Bryan Kroetsch who's Mom is Michel Kroetsch, RN at DeGraff. Bryan received a $3,000 scholarship for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 school years. Congratulations Bryan! Other previous winners listed here

Union Plus Scholarships

1. The Union Plus National Labor College Scholarship:To apply for Union Plus NLC Scholarship, call the enrollment advisors at 1-888-427-0300 and ask about the Union Plus scholarships.

2. The Union Plus Scholarship Application Deadline: is January 31, 2012. Scholarship recipients' names are announced May 31. Due to the high volume of applications, only winners receive notification.

WNY Council of CWA EJ Mays Scholarship Winners for 2012

Delegates and Officers from the Western New York Council of the CWA held a random lottery drawing for the 2012 Eugene Mays Scholarship Awards. There were a total of 335 scholarship applications received as of the deadline on November 9, 2011. A total of 8 $1500 scholarships will be awarded to each of the winners at the 38th Annual Eugene J. Mays Memorial Awards Dinner on January 20, 2012 at the Hearth Stone Manor.
