Safe Patient Handling became a law in 2014, however the program was established in several facilities over 10 years ago with the objectives of increasing the quality of care for patients and residents. This approach has been proven to reduce injuries to patients and staff, reduce length of stay, reduce costs of injury and decrease worker’s compensation claims.
There are several policies in place that pertain to Safe Patient Handling. For members at Kaleida, these can be found on Kaleidoscope. We encourage all of our members to adhere to these polices. If you feel that equipment is not working correctly or is missing you should notify your manager immediately. Never place yourself or a patient at risk of getting hurt by not using equipment or using it incorrectly. If you face any challenges at obtaining the needed equipment or instruction in its use, please contact us.
