2020 Joe Beirne Foundation Scholarship

We help RN’s, Medical Professionals, and workers of all stripes to attain better pay, better working conditions, and to make their voices heard.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors has approved the awarding of sixteen (16) partial college scholarships of $4,000 each for two years. Eligible for the scholarships are CWA members, their spouses, children, and grandchildren, including the dependents of retired, laid-off, or deceased members. Applications will be available solely online for submission on the Foundation’s website at http://cwa-union.org/beirne-application.

This valuable scholarship program is made possible by the funding of CWA locals. For those locals not yet participating in funding the Beirne scholarships, I urge you to do so. Financial arrangements can be made to accommodate your local’s needs.

Please fill out the form below to be considered for a Beirne Foundation scholarship. Final deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m., EDT, April 30, 2020.

An original essay must be submitted for your application to be considered. Upload your essay as one document in Microsoft Word format when you submit this form. Essay details:

  1. Please submit a typed, double-spaced essay of no more than 250 words. The topic of this essay should be related to any aspect of the Labor Movement and how it has affected your life. For example, what role have unions played in your family; or, why are unions important?
  2. In the same document, but after the essay, please let us know if you have a major or career objective.
  3. To speed application processing, please title your file this way: “firstname_lastname_mmdd.doc” – “firstname” being your first name, “lastname” being your last name, and “mmdd” being your month and day of birth. Example: “jane_doe_0319.doc”
