KALEIDA HEALTH ATTEMPTS TO CHANGE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF DECADES LONG CONTRACT LANGUAGE AND HAVE AGREED TO REVERSE COURSE
August 11, 2021
In February of 2021, a master grievance was filed for Buffalo General Technical and RN union members stating that management was changing their decades long practice of paying two shift differentials for extended shift employees on second and third shift. This has been decades long grandfathered language since the merger into one master agreement for Kaleida Health.
After the grievance was heard at step 2, Kaleida agreed that;
“Article 20 (Shift Differential), Section 6 of the Master Agreement shall only apply to the first shift. For all other shifts, shift differential shall be paid in accordance with Article 20, Section 4.”
As a result of this win, four employees from Buffalo General’s Emergency Department will be receiving back pay, some as far back as July of 2020 to correct this issue.
A special thanks goes out to our Medical Secretaries of Buffalo General’s Emergency Department for uncovering this issue and seeing the entire case through to resolution. CWA Local 1168 appreciates their tenacity and dedication to all our rights as union members.
